Outside the city: Bohemian castles

Fortresses, chateaux, fairy-tale castles, country houses all testifying to the splendour of times past in this magnificent countryside. The castles of Bohemia are just an hour away from Prague and a must for anyone visiting the capital. The beautiful countryside around Prague has luxuriant green valleys and rivers wending their way through dense forest. Karlštejn is undoubtedly one of the destinations not to miss. This was the castle of the emperor Charles IV where the crown jewels of the kings of Bohemia are now on display. A sightseeing tour would not be complete without a visit to the Konopiště château and the Labyrintarium’s amazing mazes of the Loučeň castle.  The Český Krumlov castle has a Baroque theatre with a revolving theatre in the castle garden which gives the castle a bizarre yet playful atmosphere. In eastern Bohemia at the foot of the Monti Orlické mountains there is the Častolovice castle surrounded by an enormous, highly evocative park.  Not far away from Vamberk, the town of Nové Město nad Metují and its castle attract many visitors.
